Mental Performance Internship
Program Overview:
The Mental Performance Internship Program provides students and aspiring professionals with hands-on experience applying principles of performance psychology to enhance mental skills, resilience, confidence, Purpose, and overall performance in sport, military, business, and other high-performance environments. Interns gain exposure to applied mental training techniques, client interactions, and performance consulting practices under the supervision of Certified Mental Performance Consultants (CMPC) or licensed professionals.
Objectives
Develop a working knowledge of applied performance psychology concepts such as motivation, confidence, focus, and stress management.
Learn how to assess, design, and deliver individualized mental skills training programs.
Observe and support performance enhancement sessions with athletes, teams, or professionals.
Build professional skills in communication, consultation, and ethical practice.
Key Responsibilities
Interns may:
Assist with mental skills training sessions (goal setting, visualization, concentration, emotional regulation).
Conduct or observe performance assessments and client consultations.
Help design training materials, workshops, or presentations for teams and organizations.
Collect and analyze performance data to support mental training programs.
Participate in supervision and case discussions with senior consultants.
Engage in self-reflection and professional development to enhance applied practice readiness.
Supervision & Training
Supervised by a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), licensed psychologist, or faculty mentor.
Includes weekly supervision meetings, skill-building workshops, and ongoing feedback.
Opportunities to shadow experienced practitioners in applied or research settings.
Eligibility Requirements
Enrollment in or completion of a graduate or undergraduate degree in Performance Psychology, Kinesiology, Sports Psychology, or a related field.
Strong interest in mental performance coaching and applied psychology.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and observation skills.
Must uphold professional ethics, confidentiality, and respect for diverse populations.

Duration: 20 weeks (flexible based on academic calendar).
Hours: 10–15 hours per week (part-time).

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, interns will:
Demonstrate foundational knowledge of applied sport and performance psychology.
